  • Ḥadīth 12: Abū Hurayrah reported that Allāh's Messenger  ()said, "Whoever does not abandon falsehood and action in accordance with it and foolishness, Allāh has no need that he should abandon his food and drink.'' [Bukhārī and Abū Dā'ud]
  • Ḥadīth 13: Narrated ʿĀʾaisha: The Prophet () used to kiss and fondle his wives while he was fasting, but he was the one among you who had most control over his sexual desire. [Agreed upon). The wording is Muslim's, and in another narration, he has the addition: "during Ramaḍān."
  • Ḥadīth 14: Narrated Ibn ʿAbbās: The Prophet () had himself cupped when he was wearing the iḥrām (during Ḥajj or ʿUmrah) and had himself cupped when he was fasting. [Al Bukhārī).
  • Ḥadīth 15: The Prophet () came across a man in Al-Baqi' who was being cupped in Ramaḍān. He () said, "The one who cups and the one who is cupped have broken their fast."
  • Ḥadīth 16: Narrated Anas: The first time cupping for the one who is fasting was disapproved was when: Jaʿfar bin Abū Ṭālib had himself cupped while he was fasting; the Prophet () came to him and said, "Both of these have broken their fast." Thereafter, the Prophet () allowed cupping for one who is fasting. Anas used to cup himself when he was fasting.
  • Ḥadīth 17: Narrated ʿĀʾaisha: The Prophet () applied koḥl in Ramaḍān while he was fasting. 
  • Ḥadīth 18: Narrated Abū Hurayrah: Allāh's Messenger () said, "Whoever forgets while fasting and eats or drinks should complete his fast, for it is Allāh who has fed him and given him drink." (Agreed upon].
  • Ḥadīth 19: Narrated Abū Hurayrah: Allāh's Messenger () said, ''Whoever suddenly vomits (while fasting), does not have to make-up the fast, but whoever vomits intentionally must make up the day. "
  • Ḥadīth 20: Narrated Jābir bin ʿAbdAllāh: Allāh's Messenger () departed to Makkah in Ramaḍān in the year of the conquest. He and the people fasted till he came to Kura' Al-Ghamim. He then requested for a cup of water which he raised till the people looked at it, and then he drank. He was told afterwards that some of the people had continued to fast, and he said, "Those are the disobedient ones; those are the disobedient ones."! In another narration: "It was said to him: The people have found the fast difficult, and are waiting for what you will do." He then called for a cup of water after the ʿaṣr prayer and drank. (Muslim).
  • Ḥadīth 21: Narrated Hamza bin ʿAmr Al Aslami: He said, "O Allāh's Messenger! I find myself strong enough to fast while travelling, so is there any sin upon me (if I fast)?" Allāh's Messenger () said, "It is a permission given by Allāh and whoever acts upon it has done well. And whoever desires to fast would not be guilty of sin."

  •  Ḥadīth 22: Ibn ʿAbbas narrated: ‘An elderly man is permitted to break his fast, but he must feed a poor person daily, and he does not have to make up for it.’ 
  • Ḥadīth 23: Abū Hurayrah Narrated: A man came to the Messenger of Allāh () and said, “l am ruined O Messenger of Allāh ()!” The Messenger of Allāh () asked him, “What has ruined you?" The man replied, ‘I had intercourse with my wife during the day in Ramaḍān (while fasting)…”
  • Ḥadīth 24: ʿĀʾaisha and Umm Salamah narrated: The Messenger of Allāh () would rise in the morning (when it is already Fajr time) while he was Junub (in a state of major ritual impurity due to intercourse) on a day in Ramaḍān..."
  • Ḥadīth 25: ʿĀʾaisha narrated: The Messenger of Allāh () said, "Whoever dies while he still has some fasts to make up (of the days of Ramaḍān), then any heir must fast on his behalf.” 
  • Ḥadīth 26: Abū Qatadah Al-anṣārī narrated: The Messenger of Allāh () was asked about fasting on the day of ʿArafah (the 9th of the month of Dhu al-Ḥijjah). He replied, "Fasting on the day of ʿArafah is an expiation for the preceding year and the following year..."
  • Ḥadīth 27: Abū Ayūb Al-anṣārī narrated: The Messenger of Allāh () said, "Whoever fasts during the month of Ramaḍān and then follows it with six days of Shawwāl will be (rewarded) as if he had fasted the entire year.”
  • Ḥadīth 28: Abū saʿīdAl-Khudrī narrated:  The Messenger of Allāh () said, “No servant fasts on a day (merely) for the sake of Allāh, except that Allāh pushes the Hellfire seventy years further away from his face...."

  • Ḥadīth 29: ʿĀʾaisha narrated: The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) used to fast until one
    would say, ‘he never breaks his fast (i.e. he never stops fasting), and he would abandon fasting (at other times) until one would say that he never fasts….”
  • Ḥadīth 30: Abū Dharr narrated: The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) commanded us to fast for three days of every month; that is on the days of the full moon; the 13th , 14th, and 15th (of the lunar month).’

  • Ḥadīth 31: Abū Hurayrah narrated: The Messenger of Allāh said, “A woman is not to fast (even) for one day while her husband is present except with his permission.”
  • Ḥadīth 32: Abū saʿīd Al-Khudrī narrated: “The Messenger of Allāh () prohibited fasting on two days of ʿId; the day of Fiṭr (breaking the fast of Ramaḍān and on the day of sacrifice (ʿīdul Adḥa).”
  • Ḥadīth 33: The Messenger of Allāh () said, “The days of Tashrīq (the three days following ʿīdul Adḥa, i.e. 11th, 12th and 13th of Dhul-Ḥijjah) are days of eating, drinking and remembering (dhikr) of Allāh, the Mighty and Majestic.”
  • Ḥadīth 34:  ʿĀʾaisha and lbn ʿUmar narrated, “No one was allowed to fast on the days of Tashrīq except for those who could not afford the sacrifice.”
  • Ḥadīth 35:  Abū Hurayrah narrated:  The Propphet () said, “…Do not single out Friday among other days for fasting, unless it coincides with the days one regularly fasts.”
  • Ḥadīth 36: Abū Hurayrah narrated:  The Messenger of Allāh () said, “None of you should fast on Friday, unless he fasts together on the day before or the day after.”
  • Ḥadīth 37: Abū Hurayrah narrated:  The Messenger of Allāh () said, “When it is the middle of Shaʾbān do not fast (until it is Ramaḍān).”
  • Ḥadīth 38: The Messenger of Allāh () said, “Do not fast on Saturday unless it is an obligatory fast. (Do not fast) even if you do not find anything (to eat) except for some grape peelings or the branch of a tree, he should chew on it.”
